Beta Users Not Loving Google’s Sandbox
eMarketer reported this week that beta users of Google’s privacy sandbox – Google’s audience targeting solution post-cookies – is slow, cumbersome and not so great at finding audiences.
In the spirit of an old Key & Peele bit where they would impersonate an angry Obama translating speeches- I thought I’d share the inside-baseball comments in (….)
The beta user critiques included:
- Slow bid response times (It’s gonna take awhile for systems to adapt to new data flows)
- Fewer available ad impressions; lower CPMs (Curious if sandbox is eliminating stale/fraudulent cookies and made for advertising websites. If it is, then for sure, there’s gonna be fewer impressions and without all the layers of cookie data, lower CPMs.)
- Google gobbling publisher share of revenue (Between sandbox and Google new AI search results, for the life of me I cannot figure out Google’s monetization strategy here – if it disintermediates its primary ad revenue streams.)
- Google gaining market share against competitors (Well, I mean, yeah. Google eliminating third-party cookies always seemed to me a way to not share toys in the sandbox, pardon the pun.)
